Yablena Natura is the largest producer of BIO apples, pears and cherries in the Balkans. Their orchards are located in the foothills of Stara Planina, spread over an area of over 2,000 acres. The success of the company is due to their professional team, as well as to the new technologies that Yablena applies. The implemented ANGIE IoT system provides real-time monitoring of the temperature and humidity in the cold storages where the product are placed.
How important is temperature and humidity monitoring when storing fruit?
Yablena Natura has huge warehouses for product storing. ANGIE’s service enables zoned monitoring of temperature and humidity in large spaces by deploying sensor devices along the warehouse that provide 24/7 real-time monitoring.
If the humidity and temperature are not monitored, the fruit rots from the inside out. This can be detected when the fruit is cut open, which would compromise sales.
By monitoring only these two parameters, the amount of damaged goods could be reduced and revenue could be increased.
Our IoT project
Temperature and humidity measuring devices are installed at 3 levels in each apple and pear cold storage room.
The devices collect data from the measurements and send it to the local LoRaWAN network. From there, the data is transmitted to a cloud system. Collected and processed data is visualized in the Angie IoT application.
Angie IoT Benefits
Ever since Yablena has been using the Angie IoT system, the microclimate in the warehouses has been continuously monitored. Angie IoT application is installed on the mobile devices of the agronomists and they actively monitor it. If one of them is not on site, he can contact his colleague to check the reason for any change that the system has notified. Based on reports and graphs from Angie IoT, preventive actions can be taken to limit the damage.
Thanks to Angie IoT, Yablena’s technologists can monitor the temperature and humidity at different levels in their warehouses and keep all parameters within the norm.
If a door of a room is closed, but the temperature remains at constant levels, there is a problem with the refrigeration unit, and this can be established thanks to the Angie IoT platform, Yablena shares.
